Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling

A play that uses the loves, lives and losses of six women in a small town in Louisiana deep in the Southern States of America. The women are all of different ages, fortunes and temperaments, united by a feisty self-confidence, irrepressible humour, and steely fortitude in the face of life's setbacks.
Set in a beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant Annelle, the outspoken, wisecracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the towns rich curmudgeon, Ouiser an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee the ex mayor's widow; and the local social leader, M'Lynn, whose daughter Shelby "the prettiest girl in town" is about to marry a "good ole boy".
Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions the play builds to a conclusion that is deeply moving.
CODS production of Steel Magnolias in 2008 was an all pink production! Humorous and moving, well directed and performed.
