CODS NEWSLETTER ...... JULY 2010 Hi everyone, I hope this finds everyone in good health and enjoying our amazing summer (although it is raining as I'm typing this.) The AGM has now been and gone, thank you to everyone who attended and for the apologies received. All the business was concluded within the hour and I can now let you know who will be serving you on the Management Committee for the forthcoming year. Carol Stoyle has been welcomed as President and we thank David Green for his many years service in this role. Hilary Ward has taken over from Pam Swan as Chairman, I now hold the Secretary's post - Mike Canning couldn't wait to give it back! Mike once again holds the purse strings, relieving Alan Baker. Again sincere thanks to Pam, Alan and Mike for the past 12 months (36 in Alan's case!) Our number is completed by Sue Lawrie, as Vice Chairman, Anton Heal, Emily Killeen, Dean Morgan, Vanessa Nuthall, Jo Ward, Alan Baker, plus a welcome back to Gillian Mackenzie and welcome to new members Leala Watson and Stephanie Johnson. Finally, thanks go to Beth Barlow for being the Minutes Secretary for goodness knows how long and to Dave Baker, Chris Barlow and Cathy Lamb for all their sterling work! Just a final AGM word. Subs are now due. It was agreed at the 2009 AGM to increase full members' subs to £25 this year. The Juniors subs and the Friends subs were held at £5 and a minimum of £10, respectively. Can you please send cheques payable to CODS to me at 9 Penton Close, Crediton EX17 1BQ. Alternatively I can let you have a standing order mandate, which makes collecting the subs much easier for me and saves you having to send it to me. Thanks to all the many members and Friends who already use this method. Members please don't forget to increase yours to £25! Also be aware that if you wish to audition for any part in a production that I must have your subs by 28th July. Thank you to everyone who supported Jesus Christ Superstar. We had a great time putting it on and from the feedback we received everyone had a great time watching it. We have been rewarded for our efforts by NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association) in that they have bestowed their most prestigious award, the Stage Electrics Award for Technical Achievement upon us. Well done everyone! The show cost us over £16k to produce and with all the sponsorship, adverts and the tremendous box office sales, not to mention all the draw tickets and drinks that you bought, we almost covered that expense. So, what's happening now? Well we start with something that the committee are really committed to, a social event! The annual BBQ will be held at Mike and Anne Palmer's house, 15 Chestnut Close, Crediton on Saturday 31 July from 7.30pm. Can you let Anton know if you are hoping to attend, just so we can get an idea of numbers. The cost will be approximately £5 per head & you can contact Anton on 01363 877406 or email antonheal@yahoo.co.uk Moving on from there, will be the September concerts. The theme this time is 'Weather' and as usual we will be providing food, served before we start singing. We are at the Boniface Centre on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th September. I will send you further details a bit nearer the time, but please make a note of the dates as we expect demand for tickets to be high again, this year and we don't want you to be disappointed! Our production of Jack the Ripper follows in October. At the moment we are running for four nights from Wednesday 27th to Saturday 30th October at QECC Western Road, but we may add the Tuesday. Again, I will let you know nearer the time. We welcome back David Green as producer for this one, as far as I know David hasn't produced for us since my first show in 1988! That takes us on to Oliver. Rehearsals for this will start after Jack the Ripper, although our joint producers, Emily Killeen and Sarah Carter will be busy with the forty plus children that we need, before the adults start. Oliver will be the Easter show, starting on 18th April. Again please put this in your diary as the Easter holidays are a bit strange for 2011! Well that's about all folks. I look forward to seeing lots of you at the BBQ, that includes the Friends! Yvonne Yvonne Youles, Secretary & Membership Secretary
